Houston is the fourth-largest city in the United States and the largest city in the state of Texas. And, no doubt due to its size, it has a huge amount of suitable things to do on a day out with your caregiver if you are receiving elder home care.

Different people want different kinds of activities – some like to relax in parks or recreational areas with a picnic and soft drink, others like the physical and mental exercise of a long stroll through a museum or art gallery.
A caregive, in all situation will make sure your transport is organised and all aspects of home care are carried over into the excursion. For example, medication, mobility aids, safety equipment, etc, are all brought along if necessary.

For a cultural day out in the city you and your caregiver could head down to the Theatre District which is home to nine major performing arts organizations and six performance halls. Also, there is the Museum District’s cultural institutions and exhibits which attract more than 7 million visitors a year. Notable facilities the include The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Station Museum of Contemporary Art, Holocaust Museum Houston, and the Houston Zoo.

The main issues with the more active days out are the sun and heat, exhaustion from exercise and the organiszation of proper mobility services and equipment.

Plenty of fluids, sun cream and a hat are important as are small breaks in the shade frequently. The caregiver must be aware of the physical state of the person receiving home care – can they actually walk far or they must make sure they are not pushing them too hard on the day out!  Then there is access to facilities if the senior client has mobility equipment such as frames or wheel chairs – are there stairs that will be encountered or are there elevators to help.
